About this opportunity

The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center announced its intent to sole-source award a fixed price purchase order to Covidien Sales LLC for three FT10 Energy Platform machines, with a response deadline of July 8, 2026. The acquisition is for replacement electrosurgical equipment at the Department of Perioperative Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, and will be conducted under FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures, exempting it from formal competition requirements.

NIH justifies the sole-source determination on technical grounds: the Valleylab FT10 is the only generator equipped with TissueFect technology, which monitors tissue impedance 434,000 times per second to optimize energy delivery, and it is the only device compatible with the department's existing Ligasure hand piece. Covidien Sales is located at 15 Hampshire Street, Mansfield, Massachusetts. The work is classified under NAICS 339112 (Surgical and Medical Instrument Manufacturing) and PSC 6515 (Medical Instruments, Equipment, and Supplies). Interested parties may submit comments or documentation supporting or contesting the sole-source justification prior to award.
