About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Northwest has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source contract for fire truck repair services at Naval Base Kitsap. The contract, valued at $36,224.32, will be procured under the Simplified Acquisition Threshold (SAT) and is classified as an Other Than Full and Open Competition acquisition. NAVFAC has determined that Hughes Fire Equipment is the sole provider capable of meeting the specific technical and logistical requirements for this repair service. The procurement is being conducted in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b)(1)(i) for sole source acquisitions under SAT. The contract falls under the General Automotive Repair NAICS category and specifically targets maintenance and repair of fire fighting and safety equipment.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to engage Hughes Fire Equipment for specialized fire truck repair services due to their exclusive licensing agreements and unique qualifications. No competitive bidding will be conducted, as the agency has justified the sole source selection based on the vendor's distinctive capabilities and proximity to the naval base. Contractors interested in similar future opportunities should note the rigorous evaluation criteria that NAVFAC employs when determining vendor selection, which in this case include technical expertise, specialized licensing, and logistical considerations. The acquisition demonstrates the federal government's approach to procuring specialized services when a single vendor can comprehensively meet complex technical requirements. While this opportunity is not set aside for any specific group, it illustrates the nuanced procurement processes within federal contract opportunities, particularly for highly specialized maintenance and repair services in defense-related contexts.
