About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued a Notice of Intent to Sole Source for the procurement of a NETZSCH STA 449 F3 Jupiter Compatible Platinum Furnace. This specialized analytical laboratory equipment will be utilized by NIST's Engineering Laboratory Fire Research Division at their Gaithersburg, Maryland campus. The agency intends to negotiate directly with NETZSCH Instrument North America, LLC, located in Burlington, Massachusetts, under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. The procurement includes three line items: a platinum furnace capable of heating samples up to 1500°C, a TG-DSC carrier system replacement or repair with potential trade-in consideration, and three platinum rhodium crucibles with lids. NIST has identified Samyak Solutions Inc., an authorized NETZSCH distributor, as the source capable of meeting their technical requirements.
The sole source justification is based on the critical need for equipment compatibility with NIST's existing STA 449 F3 Jupiter system, as alternative sources would require significant revalidation and reconfiguration that could compromise test reliability and accuracy. Interested parties who believe they can satisfy the requirements must submit written responses to Marvin Jean at marvin.jean@nist.gov no later than August 11, 2025, at 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Responses must include comprehensive business information such as contractor name, contact details, CAGE code or UEI, and business classification validated in the System of Award Management (SAM). The procurement falls under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing with a small business size standard of 1,000 employees. All equipment must be new, with used, remanufactured, experimental, or gray market components explicitly prohibited, and all items must be shipped in original manufacturer packaging with complete documentation.
