About this opportunity
The US Geological Survey (USGS) has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to negotiate a single-source purchase order with Illumina, Inc. for comprehensive maintenance services for a NextSeq 1000 DNA sequencer. The notice was published on February 6, 2025, with a response deadline of February 11, 2025. The USGS has determined that Illumina is the only source capable of providing the proprietary maintenance for this specialized scientific equipment. The procurement will be conducted under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Parts 12 and 13, which govern the acquisition of commercial items and simplified acquisition procedures. The notice is primarily a formal communication to satisfy FAR Subpart 5.2 requirements regarding procurement transparency.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to secure a full coverage service maintenance plan for the NextSeq 1000 DNA sequencer, which includes comprehensive support services such as parts and labor coverage, reagent replacement, remote technical support, and onsite response capabilities. Contractors interested in responding must submit their entire response via electronic mail to cjfejarang@usgs.gov by February 11, 2025, at 12:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. While this is technically a non-competitive procurement, the USGS will accept and consider any quotations received by the deadline. The maintenance plan covers 18-hour daily technical support, 5 days per week, with a 2-business-day onsite response target, control software and hardware updates, applications support, and training discounts. The agency retains sole discretion to determine whether to compete the action based on any responses received, and submissions through hardcopy or SAM.gov will not be accepted.
