About this opportunity

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), under the Department of the Treasury, is soliciting quotations for nickel "S" Pellets with 99.95% purity to be used in electroplating currency printing plates. Quoters must submit both technical and pricing proposals by December 11, 2025 at 3:30 PM ET to the designated BEP contacts. Technical proposals will be evaluated using a Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) methodology, with submissions rated as either "Acceptable" or "Unacceptable" based on compliance with minimum solicitation requirements. Vendors must provide a Certificate of Analysis for chemical composition and comply with environmental, health, and safety requirements as outlined in the solicitation documents. The government may award the contract based on initial quotations without conducting discussions, and delivery is expected within 7 calendar days after contract award.

This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside procurement valued at approximately $43,659.20 for a one-time purchase of 8 drums of nickel S-pellets, with an option to purchase an additional 8 drums. Vale's nickel "S" Pellets have been identified as meeting BEP's stringent specifications for currency production, with the brand name justification noting that alternative specifications would require extensive testing and potential production delays. The nickel pellets must be packaged in 10 kg plastic bags within 35-gallon drums (approximately 300 pounds per drum) and delivered to BEP facilities in Washington, DC (20228) and the Western Currency Facility in Fort Worth, Texas. A prior sources sought notice was published from January 23 to February 12, 2025, with three sources responding, and another solicitation is expected to be posted in January 2026 for future requirements. Amendment A0002, posted on December 8, 2025, provides clarifications on packaging specifications and vendor eligibility requirements.
