About this opportunity
The United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity has published a Special Notice regarding the acquisition of NextSeq and MiSeq instrument support and supplies for the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. The Department of Defense agency intends to award this contract on a sole source basis to Illumina Inc., located in San Diego, California. The notice was posted on July 25, 2025, with a response deadline of August 8, 2025. The procurement falls under the NAICS category of Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and the PSC category of Laboratory Equipment and Supplies. This acquisition is being conducted without any set-aside designations.
The primary purpose of this sole source procurement is to obtain compatible Illumina brand consumables and preventative/emergency maintenance support services for government-owned Illumina brand instruments used for DNA sequencing operations. The Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity has determined that Illumina Inc. is the only responsible source capable of providing these specialized products and services, justifying the sole source approach under Federal Acquisition Regulation 13.501(a)(1)(ii) and 41 United States Code 1901. Contractors interested in this opportunity must respond by August 8, 2025, though the sole source designation effectively limits participation to Illumina Inc. The procurement specifically supports the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research's DNA sequencing capabilities, ensuring continued operation and maintenance of critical laboratory instrumentation. Given the sole source nature, eligibility is restricted to the identified vendor based on their unique ability to provide compatible consumables and maintenance services for the proprietary Illumina sequencing platforms.
Notice text
