About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Integrated Service Network 7, specifically the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, has issued a Special Notice and Request for Quote (RFQ) for the supply and installation of one new Ames 8-inch backflow preventer. The solicitation number is 36C24726Q0083, and it falls under the Industrial Valve Manufacturing category (NAICS 332911) with a Product Service Code of N048 for installation of equipment valves. This Special Notice addresses a critical clarification regarding equipment specifications that contractors need to be aware of before submitting proposals. The notice was posted on October 28, 2025, and represents a straightforward procurement for building maintenance and safety equipment at a VA medical facility.
The primary objective of this RFQ is to procure and install a backflow preventer system to address Building 100's infrastructure requirements at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. Contractors must submit their quotes by October 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Central Time, with the solicitation being archived three days after the response deadline. A key requirement clarified in the Special Notice is that while the original specification called for the Ames 2000 SE model, the VA has confirmed acceptance of the 2000 SS model as a suitable replacement, acknowledging that the SE model is now obsolete. The contracting officer for this procurement is Terri Hudson, who can be contacted at terri.hudson@va.gov for any questions. There are no specific set-asides or special eligibility criteria mentioned, indicating this is open to all qualified contractors capable of meeting the technical and installation requirements.

Question:
The PWS states " Supply and install one (1) new Ames 8-inch backflow: Model 2000 SE"
The SE model is obsolete and has been replaced by the SS model. I have attached the specsheet for that model to this email.
Will VA accept a 2000SS in place of a 2000SE?
Answer:
Yes the SS is fine
