About this opportunity
The Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate (AFRL/RWTE) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida has published a Special Notice regarding the procurement of MTAC Recrystallization Equipment. The Department of Defense is seeking to award a single source purchase order to Mettler-Toledo AutoChem as authorized under FAR 6.302-1(a)(2). This Notice of Intent is not a request for competitive proposals but rather an announcement that the government contemplates awarding a sole-source contract. The NAICS code for this procurement is 423490 (Other Professional Equipment and Supplies Merchant Wholesalers), and the PSC category is 3650 (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Products Manufacturing Machinery). The Special Notice was posted on April 3, 2026, and responses must be submitted by April 10, 2026.
The objective of this procurement is to acquire an integrated chemical reaction and crystallization workstation consisting of an EasyViewer 100 image viewer system, ReactRaman 802L spectrometer, Raman immersion probe, iC vision software, installation services, and one year of maintenance support. These components are essential for AFRL/RWTE's recrystallization efforts for new explosive formulations incorporating CL-20 material and must integrate seamlessly with the existing EasyMax 402 Automated Lab reactor to enable real-time monitoring and control of chemical reactions and crystallization processes. Interested parties must submit responses to Michael Hornberger at michael.hornberger.1@us.af.mil by April 10, 2026 at 9:00 AM Eastern Time, with the subject line "MTAC Recrystallization Equipment"; responses must include only PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, or XLSX file attachments. The government has determined that Mettler-Toledo AutoChem is the sole source manufacturer capable of providing this specialized equipment due to its integration requirements and proprietary specifications, though the government reserves the right to conduct a competitive procurement based on responses received. There are no set-asides for this procurement, and all interested parties may submit information for the government's consideration regarding whether competition is warranted.
