About this opportunity
The Department of Energy is seeking proposals for the procurement of Microwave Absorber Brazements for the Material-Plasma Exposure (MPEX) experiment being constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The brazements are in-vessel components that accept high heat loads and are part of the vacuum envelope of the MPEX device. Key requirements include meeting specific performance specifications, providing a quality plan and project schedule, conducting manufacturing reviews, and completing final factory acceptance testing. Proposals will be evaluated based on the offeror's ability to meet the technical and quality requirements outlined in the Statement of Work. Proposals are due by November 22, 2024.
This contract opportunity is not set aside for any specific business category. The Department of Energy has also issued a related Statement of Work for the fabrication of other high heat flux brazed components for MPEX. The work is to be performed in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The contract value is not specified, but the detailed requirements indicate the procurement of multiple microwave absorber brazements and other specialized fusion reactor components.
Notice text
MPEX Microwave Absorber Brazements
The Material-Plasma Exposure experiment (MPEX), a superconducting magnet, steady-state device, is being constructed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), going forward referred to as “the Company,” to address the harsh conditions inside a fusion reactor. This device, as designed, will have the unique feature of being able to conduct accelerated lifetime tests of plasma-facing components, including those that have experienced neutron damage. The in-vessel components are plasma-facing components that accept high heat loads and are part of the vacuum envelope of the MPEX Device. The brazements in this procurement are used to build the Microwave Absorber, an in-vessel component.
