About this opportunity

The U.S. Geological Survey, through its Office of Acquisitions and Grants, is conducting market research to identify qualified vendors capable of providing a microXRF geochemistry sensor for integration with an existing Geotek MSCL-XZ (Mark II) core logging system. The sensor must deliver non-destructive, rapid geochemical analysis of drill core samples with elemental detection capabilities ranging from aluminum to uranium, utilizing a 4-50 kV X-ray source with a 15 W sealed tube and silicon drift detector achieving 133 eV spectral resolution. Key technical requirements include a helium-flushed measurement cell for low-energy element quantification, precision stage movements providing 0.5 mm down-core and 5 mm cross-core collimation for elemental mapping with sub-1 cm spot sizes, and comprehensive software control integrated with existing Geotek systems. The government will evaluate responses based on vendors' demonstrated ability to meet the detailed technical specifications provided, and qualified businesses should submit product data sheets via email to yangzhi_deng@ios.doi.gov no later than April 28, 2026 at 9:00 AM PST. This announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and does not obligate the government to issue any purchase order or contract.

No set-aside designation applies to this procurement, and no incumbent contractor information is identified in the notice. The opportunity does not specify an anticipated award value or budget range, nor are any historical contractors mentioned. Delivery requirements include fully on-site upgrade and installation by qualified Geotek technicians without requiring return of the instrument to the manufacturer, along with comprehensive training of USGS personnel on system operation and software functionality. The system must operate on standard laboratory power (110V US) without requiring external cooling infrastructure and must maintain stable, repeatable measurements with minimal drift during extended scanning operations typical of long core-logging sessions. Responding businesses should be classified under NAICS code 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) with a size standard of 1,000 employees, and responses must be submitted exclusively through electronic mail in their entirety by the stated deadline.
