About this opportunity
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified contractors to refurbish a 50-foot exterior staircase at the VUZ VOR facility in Mount Olive, Alabama. The procurement will utilize a simplified acquisition process to establish a competitive bidding pool for a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract. Interested vendors must be registered in SAM.gov, have no exclusions, demonstrate positive past performance, and present low risk to the FAA. The evaluation will focus on determining the lowest price technically acceptable bidder, with eligibility contingent upon verification of vendor qualifications. Key dates include a market survey response deadline of February 12, 2025, a Request for Quotation (RFQ) release on February 19, 2025, a mandatory site visit on March 3, 2025, quote submissions due March 7, 2025, and an estimated contract award date of March 14, 2025.
The FAA has not yet finalized a specific small business set-aside, but is considering potential designations for Small Businesses, 8(a) program participants, Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses, Woman-Owned Small Businesses, and local vendors within 50 miles of the work site. The project involves completely rebuilding an existing pressure-treated wood staircase, including installing a new center stringer, replacing outboard stringers, adding balusters, and installing new treads with specific material and construction requirements. The scope of work requires the contractor to provide all labor, materials, and equipment, coordinate site access, submit detailed work plans, and provide a one-year workmanship warranty. Work will be performed at 1693-1783 County Road 112 in Mount Olive, AL, with authorized work hours between 7 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The procurement falls under NAICS category 238990 for specialty trade contractors and PSC category Z2BZ for airfield structure repair and alteration.
