About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office of Acquisition Services has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source firm-fixed-price order to Becton, Dickinson and Company for maintenance services on BD Biosciences flow cytometers. This notice pertains to the support of the CDC's Immunology and Pathogenesis Branch (NCIRD) and involves three specific flow cytometer instruments: FACSymphony A5, FACSLyric 2, and FACSDiscover S8 BRVTGUV. Flow cytometers are laser-based instruments that analyze physical and chemical characteristics of cells and particles in fluid streams, making them critical equipment for ongoing clinical research initiatives. The CDC has determined that maintaining operational integrity of these instruments is essential for the success of multiple research teams within NCIRD. This sole source acquisition was posted on January 27, 2026, with a deadline of January 29, 2026.
The CDC requires a Premium Service Plan that includes OEM-certified preventative maintenance at least twice annually, unscheduled corrective maintenance, access to proprietary diagnostic tools, software and security updates, genuine replacement parts, and manufacturer-authorized technical support with maximum 24-hour response times for inquiries and 48-hour response times for on-site repairs. The service agreement will operate on a base period from February 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027, with an option period extending through January 31, 2028. As this is a sole source award, only Becton, Dickinson and Company is eligible to participate, as the CDC has determined the company is the only available source capable of meeting the specified requirements. The narrow eligibility criteria and compressed timeline reflect the specialized nature of the equipment and the critical need for continuity in ongoing clinical research operations. No set-aside provisions apply to this opportunity.
