About this opportunity

The U.S. Secret Service, a civilian agency under the Department of Homeland Security, issued a Special Notice on March 5, 2026, regarding maintenance services for a proprietary Oxford Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) integrated with a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The agency intends to award a contract on a sole source basis to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, located in White Plains, New York. This Special Notice is not a formal request for quotations or competitive solicitation but rather an announcement of the Government's intent to negotiate with a single source under Federal Acquisition Regulation 12.102(a). The opportunity falls within the Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance NAICS category and the Maint/Repair/Rebuild of Equipment—Instruments and Laboratory Equipment PSC category.

The primary objective of this Special Notice is to secure specialized maintenance services for the proprietary EDS-SEM equipment used by the Secret Service. The Government has established a deadline of 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on March 12, 2026, for submission of written inquiries via email to michael.velez@usss.dhs.gov and matthew.sutton@usss.dhs.gov. Since this is a sole source procurement based on the proprietary nature of the equipment, Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC appears to be the only eligible contractor capable of providing the required maintenance services. Interested parties should note that the Government will not reimburse any costs associated with preparing responses to this announcement, and only email submissions received by the specified deadline will be considered.
