About this opportunity

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), a component of the Department of Health and Human Services, issued this Special Notice on March 4, 2026, regarding a sole source maintenance contract for laboratory equipment. The notice announces the NCI's intent to award a single-source purchase order to Agilent Technologies Inc. for maintenance services on a 6545/6546 LC/QTOF System located within the Cancer Metabolism Program of the Neuro-Oncology Branch. This acquisition falls under FAR Subpart 13.106-1(b), which permits sole source procurement when only one vendor can satisfy the requirement. The solicitation is classified under NAICS code 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) with a size standard of $34 million. No formal solicitation will be issued, as the government will negotiate directly with the selected vendor.

The primary objective of this contract is to maintain continuous operation of the LC/QTOF System through comprehensive preventive maintenance services, which is critical to supporting ongoing research activities across multiple NCI laboratories. Agilent Technologies Inc. is identified as the sole capable vendor because it is both the designer and manufacturer of the instrument and holds patents on its technology. The anticipated contract period extends from March 15, 2026, through March 14, 2029, contingent upon exercise of all options, during which the contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and equipment necessary for maintenance in accordance with manufacturer standards. Interested parties may submit expressions of interest and demonstrate their capabilities, though award eligibility is restricted to Agilent Technologies Inc. The due date for any interested party submissions is March 9, 2026.

They are the designer and manufacturer of the 6545/6546 LC/QTOF System and hold multiple patents on the instrument.

The Contractor shall provide all labor, material and equipment for preventive maintenance on this machine. All maintenance services shall be performed in accordance with the manufacturer's standard maintenance practices.
