About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center (NASA/NSSC) has issued a Special Notice for a sole source contract with the University of Florida focused on magnetic field-assisted finishing of additively manufactured GRCop-42 internal channels. The notice indicates NASA intends to issue this contract under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), specifically determining the University of Florida as the sole provider for this specialized research effort. The project will be performed at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, with the government seeking to acquire commercial items and services using provisions from FAR Part 12 and Part 13. The opportunity is categorized under NAICS code 611310 for Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools, and falls under the applied research product service code AJ12. NASA has designated this as a non-set-aside opportunity with a posting date of May 28, 2025, and a response deadline of June 2, 2025.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to advance additive manufacturing technologies through a research project developing magnetic field-assisted finishing techniques for internal channels in GRCop-42 materials. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications in writing by 12 p.m. Central Standard Time on June 2, 2025, with the understanding that the government will evaluate responses solely to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Eligibility appears focused on research institutions with specialized capabilities in additive manufacturing and materials science, with the University of Florida currently identified as the sole source provider. The project requires a minimum 25% cost sharing from the contractor and includes specific deliverables such as polished NASA-provided workpieces and a public research report. Performance will span 12 months, with mandatory interim updates every 6 months to NASA personnel, and final deliverables to be shipped to the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Contractors should note that oral communications are not acceptable in responding to this notice, and the NASA Clause 1852.215-84 regarding Ombudsman is applicable.
