About this opportunity

NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC) issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole-source commercial contract to MassTech, Inc. of Columbia, Maryland, for a MassTech Atmospheric Pressure Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (AP/MALDI) source, with capability statements due by 12:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on November 10, 2026. No set-aside is used. The notice cites FAR 12.102(a), states that MassTech is the sole provider, and specifies performance at NASA Ames Research Center under NAICS 334516 and PSC 6640. This is not a request for quotes, and quotes will not be evaluated.

The requirement supports the Cold Solar System Objects Integrated Science Focus Mission and will complement an existing Thermo Fisher Scientific Orbitrap Exploris 240. The attached SOW requires a UHR model 155C source compatible with the Exploris 240 OptaMax NG interface, a 355 nm Nd:YAG laser, an X-Y stage analyzing spots from 100 to 5 micrometers, and a 1 femtomole detection limit. It also requires installation support, training, a Manufacturer Certificate of Conformance, manuals, and warranty documentation, with the source required by December 15, 2026. Market research identified MassTech and TransMIT Center for Mass Spectrometric Development, and MassTech was selected as the preferred vendor.

Interested organizations must submit written capability statements referencing the Notice ID to the identified point of contact. Oral communications are not acceptable. Responses will determine whether the government conducts this procurement competitively. NASA FAR Supplement clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, applies.
