About this opportunity
This Special Notice concerns the Lightweight Machine Gun-Assault (LMG-A) Prototyping Project and has been published by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). The notice announces significant organizational changes in the management and execution of the LMG-A development effort. Previously managed by SOF AT&L-KR under PEO-SW PM SOF Lethality, the prototyping project is being transitioned to the Navy Crane Contracting Office, which will be restarting the initiative. The notice pertains to small arms manufacturing, specifically guns through 30mm as classified under PSC 1005. Contractors interested in participating in this effort should direct their inquiries to the Navy Crane Contracting Office's Agreements Officer, Mr. Scotland McKinzie, at scotland.r.mckinzie.civ@us.navy.mil. A formal announcement from the Navy Crane Contracting Office is anticipated in the near future.
The Special Notice serves to inform the contractor community of the programmatic shift and to provide preliminary guidance before a full solicitation is released. The white paper submission deadline is December 12, 2025, providing a five-day window from the posting date of December 7, 2025 for interested parties to prepare and submit their responses. While the notice does not specify detailed eligibility criteria, the NAICS category of Small Arms, Ordnance, and Ordnance Accessories Manufacturing (332994) indicates that submissions should come from firms with relevant manufacturing expertise in this sector. No set-aside designation has been applied to this opportunity, meaning all qualified contractors meeting the small arms manufacturing criteria are eligible to participate. Contractors should monitor communications from Mr. McKinzie's office and be prepared to submit white papers addressing their technical capabilities and approach to developing lightweight machine gun-assault systems.
Notice text
PEO-SW PM SOF Lethality has adjusted the LMG-A Prototyping Project. SOF AT&L-KR will no longer be moving forward with the prototyping effort. Instead, the Navy Crane Contracting office will restart the effort. That said, expect something to be announced by that office in the very near future. The Navy Crane Contracting/Agreements Officer POC is Mr. Scotland Mckinzie, email scotland.r.mckinzie.civ@us.navy.mil.
