About this opportunity
The Naval Air Systems Command issued a Special Notice on April 10, 2026, announcing the intent to award a purchase order to Automated Precision, Inc. for annual calibration, certification, and preventive maintenance services for laser tracking and probing systems at Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This is a sole-source procurement justified under Federal Acquisition Regulation Subpart 13.106-1(b)(i) based on the determination that only one source is reasonably available to meet the agency's requirements. The procurement is managed by Commander Fleet Readiness Centers Procurement Group at Patuxent River, Maryland, with the point of contact identified as Sarah Metcalf. The total small business set-aside designation indicates this opportunity is restricted to small business contractors, though the notice explicitly designates Automated Precision, Inc. as the intended recipient.
The primary objective of this procurement is to maintain operational readiness of critical laser tracking systems used in F/A-18 aircraft structural repair operations, which are essential to prevent work stoppages on the structural repair line. As the original equipment manufacturer, Automated Precision, Inc. is the sole identified source capable of returning the equipment to factory-level calibration and providing necessary software updates, with services required annually through April 14, 2030. Although this notice is not a request for competitive quotes, responsible sources may submit a capability statement within five calendar days of publication to demonstrate their ability to provide equivalent services; the government will evaluate such submissions solely to determine whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The government-furnished property includes two Radian Pro laser tracking systems and two inteliprobe vProbe systems valued at approximately $299,240 total, with all work to be completed within thirty days of receipt and returned to designated fleet readiness centers for inspection and acceptance.
Notice text
The Commander Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) Procurement Group, Patuxent River, MD 20670 hereby gives notice of their intent to award a purchase order to Automated Precision, Inc, 15000 John Hopkins Dr, Rockville, MD 20850 (CAGE: 0KED7) on a sole source basis in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 13.106-1(b)(i), only one source reasonably available and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) has a requirement for annual Calibration, Certification, and Preventive Maintenance (CCPM) for specified laser tracking and probing systems used in the maintenance of the F/A-18 aircraft for the Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic (FRCMA) Oceana, located at FRC MidAtlantic Aircraft Department at Virginia Beach, VA. The calibration is critical to prevent a work stoppage for structural repair lines. Automated Precision, Inc is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of these Laser Tracking Systems and are the only known source that can return equipment to factory level calibration and provide software updates. These parts are not supported in the Federal Supply System but are only available through Automated Precision, Inc.
THIS NOTICE OF INTENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE QUOTES. However, all responsible sources may submit a capability statement, which, if received within five (5) calendar days after the date of the publication of this synopsis, will be considered. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. A determination by the Government not to compete this requirement based upon responses received as a result of this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
Point of contact for this requirement is Sarah Metcalf at sarah.e.metcalf2.civ@us.navy.mil.
