About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 6 has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to negotiate a sole source contract with Varian Medical Systems, Inc. for equipment support services. The contract covers maintenance and support for Varian's TrueBeam, Aria, and Eclipse medical technology products at the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. The procurement is valued at $40 million and will operate under NAICS Code 541519 for a one-year performance period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. The VA justifies this sole source approach under FAR 13.106-1(b)(2), citing Varian as the original equipment manufacturer with proprietary technology. This notice serves as advance notification of the agency's procurement intentions rather than a competitive solicitation.
The primary purpose of this Special Notice is to inform the marketplace of the VA's planned sole source procurement while providing an opportunity for other businesses to demonstrate their capabilities. Interested contractors must submit written responses by 10:00 AM EST on September 29, 2025, to Cleveland.Wynne@va.gov, with supporting evidence showing their ability to meet the requirements and relevant past experience with similar medical equipment support services. The notice explicitly states that no solicitation documents are available and telephone requests will not be accepted. While the government will consider responses from qualified businesses, the VA retains complete discretion over whether to proceed with the sole source acquisition or convert it to a competitive procurement. Any contractor responding must demonstrate sufficient expertise in maintaining and supporting complex medical imaging and treatment equipment systems.
