About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 6 (VISN 6), has issued a Special Notice concerning a sole source procurement for a Steam Trap tracking surveyor at the Richmond VA Medical Center. The procurement is specifically targeting Carotek Inc. as the sole provider for this technology. The opportunity involves implementing a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tracking system compatible with the medical center's existing SAGE tracking software to monitor steam trap infrastructure. This procurement is being conducted under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b), which allows solicitation from a single source when deemed appropriate. The notice was posted on March 10, 2025, with a response deadline of March 12, 2025.

The primary objective of this Special Notice is to enable Carotek Inc. to provide a specialized Steam Trap tracking surveyor that integrates seamlessly with the Richmond VA Medical Center's current tracking system. Interested businesses are instructed to submit written notice directly to Ronnie.Gregory@va.gov by 11 AM EST on March 12, 2025, though this is explicitly not a competitive quote request. The opportunity is classified under NAICS Category 238220 (Plumbing, Heating, and Air-Conditioning Contractors) and Product Service Code J044 (Maintenance and Repair of Equipment). Contractors should note that no solicitation documents are available, and telephone inquiries will not be accepted. The government has determined that Carotek Inc. is the only provider capable of meeting the specific technical requirements for compatibility with the existing SAGE tracking software. The tracking system will be implemented at the medical center located at 1201 Broad Rock Blvd, Richmond, VA 23249.
