About this opportunity
The Drug Enforcement Administration announced its intent on July 10, 2026 to award a firm fixed price purchase order on a sole source basis to Thomas Scientific LLC for investigation lasers, with a response deadline of July 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM Eastern. The procurement is restricted to the specified brand-name item (Arrowhead Dual77 Laser, Part Number A-CSL7W1) under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i); the contracting officer determined that only this laser meets the DEA's technical requirements and no competing sources are reasonably available. The laser operates at 532 nanometers with 8-watt output to achieve proper fluorescence for latent fingerprint detection and friction ridge analysis using the DEA South Central Laboratory's required dye stains and amino acid developers. Market research reviewed six forensic light source providers (Fox Fury, Foster Freeman, Tritech Forensics, Coherent, Sirchie, and Forenscope) and found none offering comparable alternatives. Delivery is scheduled for September 18, 2026. The acquisition is under NAICS 334510 with a DAC number D-26-SS-0066 and is not recurring. Interested vendors may submit a written capability statement to jose.l.marin@dea.gov by the deadline, though this is not a request for competitive quotations. The Government will determine whether to open the requirement to competition solely at its discretion. Late submissions and telephone or facsimile requests will not be accepted.
