INDUSTRY DAY ANNOUNCEMENT
"SAVE THE DATE"
Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD)
Waterborne Propulsion Shafts
The US Navy is experiencing a shortfall of waterborne propulsion shafts across various surface ship classes. The US Navy has the requirement for new shaft manufacture and repair of DDG, LSD, LPD, and LHD shaft sections in accordance with Ship Class Design Documents and Navy requirements imposed by MIL-S-23284. Interested parties in procurements supporting these requirements will be required to demonstrate certification for manufacturing of MIL-S-23284 steel or become certified via First Article Testing (FAT). As a result of these requirements, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) will be hosting an Industry Day on November 30, 2017 from 0900 to 1130 (EST).
The purpose of this event is to assist the Government in gaining knowledge on the following:
•§ Industry Base- prime Contractors and Subcontractors
•§ Large shaft forging capabilities and techniques
•§ Finish machining capabilities
•§ Manufacturing lead times
•§ Set-aside status
•§ Ability to handle manufacturing of new and repair of existing shaft sections
Additionally, the Government seeks assistance in evaluating such things as:
Contract type/method
•§ Potential incentives to reduce delivery time
•§ Potential savings initiatives
•§ Technical approach
The industry day is expected to be a collaborative discussion between Government and Contractors. The Government is requesting Industry to submit questions in regards to the shaft requirement NLT 20 November 2017 to Christie Colaianni at christie.colaianni@navy.mil in order to provide the questions and answers (anonymously) to all attendees during the Industry Day. Additionally, please be prepared to share ideas so that all parties may maximize the impact of the day.
Companies that should attend are those companies that manufacture/configure/support waterborne propulsion shafts
•§ Attendance is at the Contractor's expense
•§ Limit to 3 attendees per Contractor
•§ Pre-registration is required, see details below
Interested attendees must pre-register at https://nswcpdwaterborneshafts.eventbrite.com by COB on 21 November 2017. A photo id and event ticket will be required to access the event. If you have any questions, please contact Irene.katacinski@navy.mil. Space is limited to 3 representatives per Contractor and will be provided on a first-come/first-served basis.
Check-in starts at 0800, and the opening presentation will begin promptly at 0900.
