About North American Forgemasters Co
North American Forgemasters Co (NAF) is a 50/50 joint venture between Scot Forge and Ellwood Group that produces large-scale forgings up to 270,000 lbs for the defense and commercial maritime industries.
Through past federal contract awards, NAF has provided ship propulsion system components to the U.S. Navy. This includes propeller shafts, intermediate shafts, and stern tube shafts for ship classes such as DDG-51, LHD-1, LPD-17, delivered to Naval Supply Systems Command. NAF also serves as a subcontractor to Huntington Ingalls Industries on related shaft and testing work. No special set-aside designations have been applied.
NAF received a $33 million cooperative agreement from the Department of Defense in 2020 to expand domestic forging capabilities supporting Navy programs, likely referring to the shafts and components produced for Naval Supply Systems Command.
Most recently in 2023, NAF was awarded a 5-year IDIQ contract from Naval Supply Systems Command for surface shafts worth up to $137 million. The shafts support the same Navy ship classes referenced in past awards. A $500 minimum guarantee delivery order was also awarded to NAF for fulfillment by October 2023. No set-aside designation applied to the contract, delivery order, or original solicitation.
