About this opportunity

NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego is procuring fire-retardant lumber for USS BOXER (LHD-4) to be used as support braces installed between landing craft hulls and adjacent ship bulkheads to enhance craft stability during ship movement. The Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command is seeking 186 pieces of Douglas Fir lumber in four different lengths (10ft, 12ft, 15ft, and 20ft), all with 8-inch by 8-inch cross-sections, smooth surfaces, and fire-retardant treatment. The procurement will utilize a Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) source selection process under FAR Part 13, with quotes evaluated based on technical capability, past performance, and price. Amendment 0001 clarified that Free of Heart Center wood is not required and kiln-drying is not necessary, with fire retardant treatment being the only material requirement. The solicitation closed on August 21, 2025, with questions accepted until August 16, 2025, and quotes submitted via email to Contract Specialist Mr. Dionte Grays.

This procurement is designated as a 100% Small Business set-aside under NAICS code 321113 "Sawmills" with a size standard of 550 employees, requiring vendors to be registered in SAM.gov prior to contract award. No incumbent contractors or specific award values are mentioned in the solicitation documents. The total quantity requirement is 186 pieces of lumber with delivery required by September 23, 2025, to the DLA Distribution Warehouse in San Diego, California. The shoring lumber is critical for stabilizing landing craft during trans-oceanic transits, when ships are more than 96 hours between planned wet well evolutions, or when expected wave heights exceed 10 feet. Performance will occur in San Diego, CA 92136, with delivery FOB Destination and payment via Government Purchase Card. The wooden supports are necessary to certify Amphibious Warfare capabilities, with metal shoring explicitly prohibited for this application.
