About this file

This document is an Equipment Specifications file for the USS BOXER (LHD-4), detailing requirements for fire retardant wooden shoring used to secure landing craft in the ship's well deck. The specifications outline four line items of lumber with varying lengths (10ft, 12ft, 15ft, and 20ft), all 8 inches by 8 inches in cross-section, made of Douglas Fir with a smooth surface and fire-retardant treatment. The total quantity required is 186 pieces of lumber, to be delivered to the DLA Distribution Warehouse in San Diego, CA by September 23, 2025, with payment to be made via Government Purchase Card.

The background section explains that the shoring is critical for stabilizing landing craft during trans-oceanic transits, when ships are more than 96 hours between planned wet well evolutions, or when expected wave heights exceed 10 feet. Metal shoring is explicitly prohibited, and the procurement of these wooden supports is the ship's responsibility. The document emphasizes that this shoring is necessary to certify Amphibious Warfare capabilities, with a 200% allowance required to properly secure landing craft in accordance with Allowance Equipage List Identification No. 2-180038024.
