About this opportunity

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency seeks proposals to develop algorithms capable of rapidly generating synthetic aperture radar imagery of maritime targets using sparse training data. The solicitation aims to fund multiple awards for a 15-month base period to generate target images under different conditions. Proposals are due by May 6, 2022 and will be evaluated based on the ability to recreate original datasets when trained on limited data, as measured by normalized probability of identification scores. There is no set-aside designation for this opportunity, though it is anticipated that three awards will be made in Phase 1.

The Broad Agency Announcement does not specify a NAICS code but involves research in algorithms and software for generating synthetic imagery, with a focus on maritime targets. No potential incumbents or current contractors are indicated. The first phase is for a 15-month base period to develop software meeting specified timing metrics for synthesizing target imagery under various conditions. Offerors must submit a draft protection plan and may conduct initial work in unclassified facilities using limited SAR imagery and metadata provided by the government for model training and evaluation.

Update #2 · Latest ·

DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals to develop novel algorithms that can rapidly create synthetic imagery of targets for training Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithms that operate on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. The effort will develop software that can train on a sparse set of SAR imagery of an object, such as a commercial ship, and use the results of that training to create imagery of the same object under different viewing conditions.
