About this opportunity
Defense Logistics Agency is offering approximately 294,000 kilograms of drained and undrained lead-acid batteries (UN2794, HAZ CLASS 8) located at seven military installations across Germany with a bid deadline of June 23, 2026 at 1:00 PM EST and inspection period beginning June 9, 2026.
The batteries include vehicle and materials handling equipment units of various types and sizes, some with metal casings, classified as hazardous waste (DEMIL Code A). Pickup locations are distributed across Kaiserslautern (TLSCE Storage Activity), Mannheim (Coleman Barracks), Ramstein Air Base, Baumholder (USAG RP), Grafenwoehr (USAG Bavaria), and Germersheim Army Depot. Ramstein holds the largest concentration with 36 boxes of 640-liter containers across nine buildings; Grafenwoehr contains 50 boxes and Baumholder contains 30 boxes. The contract is a 36-month term sale with estimated annual generation of 294,000 kilograms, followed by two optional 12-month periods and an available six-month extension.
Minimum bid is $0.010 per kilogram with bids submitted by sealed email to dla.sales@dla.mil. Award goes to the highest responsive bid from a responsible bidder based on financial resources, past performance, and environmental responsibility determination. A bid deposit equals three months' worth of estimated contract value at the bid price. Purchasers must prepay 20 percent of estimated annual removal costs within ten business days of award and comply with German and local environmental regulations including Directive 2006/66/EC. Removal operations are Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–3:00 PM. Storage charges of $0.05 per hundred kilograms per day apply for material not removed within three working days of notification, with a $100 minimum daily fee.
