About this opportunity
The U.S. Air Force Academy intends to solicit components for an Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Spectrometer System upgrade, with a sources-sought response deadline of June 24, 2026. This is market research to identify potential suppliers and determine procurement strategy, including whether a small business set-aside is appropriate; no set-aside is currently contemplated. Place of performance is the Air Force Academy in Colorado, supporting the Physics Department and Laser and Optics Research Center.
The requirement is for a pulsed X-band EPR spectrometer system with critical native integration to the government's existing proprietary Bruker microwave resonator. Core components include a pulsed microwave amplifier (X-band, 9–10 GHz, minimum 600 Watts output), digital pulsed X-band bridge and circulator with phase and amplitude control, dual-channel high-speed digitizer, arbitrary waveform generator (minimum 3.2 Giga-Samples per second), and a Windows 11 system control workstation with comprehensive GUI software. A go/no-go criterion mandates that proposed systems demonstrate S-parameter characterization, impedance matching, and pulse calibration compatibility with the existing Bruker resonator. Vendors must provide on-site installation, system demonstration via benchmark spin-echo measurements, and familiarization training for Air Force Academy personnel.
Capability statements (maximum 5 pages) are due electronically by 10:00 AM MDT on June 24, 2026, to ronald.wilson.26@us.af.mil and dawson.hopkinson@us.af.mil. Responses must include UEI and CAGE codes, socioeconomic status, technical capability, integration approach, past performance, country of origin and manufacturing location, and availability through GWACs, GSA MAS, or other federal contract vehicles. The procurement falls under NAICS 334516 and PSC 6630.
