About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey issued a notice of intent on August 21, 2026 to award a sole-source purchase order to MTE Instruments of Quebec, Canada for an environmental DNA (eDNA) autosampler, with responses due August 26, 2026. USGS has determined MTE Instruments is the only reasonably available source capable of meeting the required combination of technical specifications.
The autosampler must autonomously collect and preserve at least 30 discrete water samples during extended unattended deployment spanning multiple weeks without routine servicing. Required capabilities include integrated UV-based biofouling protection for long-term aquatic use, land-based operation suitable for remote partner locations, off-grid solar and swappable battery power, water volume accuracy of at least 95 percent for samples of 2 liters or less, and field serviceability in under 20 minutes by a single operator. The platform must accommodate reusable, decontaminable filter sample holders compatible with 47-millimeter diameter filters in various materials and preservation solutions, with user-definable programmable sampling rates and autonomous metadata logging to minimize contamination risks.
This procurement is classified under NAICS 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) with a size standard of 1,000 employees and PSC code 6640 (Laboratory Equipment and Supplies). Though this is not a request for competitive quotes, USGS will consider quotations from all responsible parties submitted by August 26, 2026 to elizabeth_adam@ios.doi.gov. The determination not to compete remains solely within Government discretion.
