About this opportunity

The Department of the Navy's Naval Supply Systems Command is seeking to procure a dual rack-mountable, high-power, frequency-doubled blue laser system to provide high-spectral quality detection laser light for its research on atomic clock technology using optical spectroscopy on a calcium beam. The laser system must meet specific technical requirements, including operating at wavelengths of 423 nanometers and 431 nanometers. This is a sole-source procurement from Toptica Photonics Inc., as the government determined they are the only vendor capable of manufacturing the required frequency-doubled, high-power laser system. The contract will be a new firm-fixed price type with a required delivery date of no later than December 15, 2024.

This acquisition is not set aside for any small business categories. The place of performance is Washington, DC 20392. The government has not provided any information about possible award values or budget ranges, or the quantity of laser systems required. The closing date for responses is June 12, 2024, with questions due by June 10, 2024.

Notice text

The proposed acquisition is to acquire a dual-laser system that can be integrated with an external reference to provide high-spectral quality detection laser light for multiple calcium beam systems. The dual-laser system must have the specifications listed below. These four regions deliver laser light in a very precise fashion.  This custom optical assembly acquisition will provide the clock increased stability over commercially available products. Within the Precise Time Department, the Clock Development Division is investigating atomic clock technology using optical spectroscopy on an atomic beam of calcium.  Atomic ground state detection for calcium spectroscopy utilizes a transition at 423 nanometers (nm); excited state detection utilizes a 431 nm transition.  High-performance lasers operating at these wavelengths are vital to obtaining spectroscopy signals with optimal signal-to-noise ratio.
