About this opportunity
The United States Air Force Materiel Command Nuclear Weapons Center is seeking potential sources to design, qualify, and produce an Electric Power Drive Unit (EPDU) to replace existing hydraulic Power Drive Units for the Suspended Load Frame supporting the AGM-86B Air Launched Cruise Missile platform. The market research aims to identify contractors with technical expertise in developing an EPDU capable of meeting specific performance requirements, including 230 VAC/60 Hz/3 Phase power, over 40,000 ft-lbs of torque, and approximately 1 RPM rotation speed. Interested contractors must complete a detailed capability survey demonstrating their technical capabilities, production readiness, and potential implementation strategies. The government will evaluate responses based on technical competence, production capabilities, software development expertise, and maintenance support potential. Contractors must submit their responses by February 10, 2025, with questions directed to Joshua Palmer via email.
The pre-solicitation notice does not indicate a specific set-aside for small businesses, though small businesses and joint ventures are encouraged to participate. The project anticipates a total quantity of 15 EPDU assets to be implemented across Air Force platforms, with a three-year timeline for design, qualification, and implementation. The acquisition will follow a two-phase approach: Phase I involves one year of engineering analysis, prototyping, and qualification, while Phase II focuses on modification, production, and installation of the approved design. The project falls under NAICS code 336419 with a size standard of 1,050 employees, targeting guided missile and space vehicle parts manufacturing. While specific award values are not disclosed, the comprehensive nature of the project suggests a significant investment in modernizing critical missile support infrastructure.
