About this opportunity
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the Department of Health and Human Services, has issued a Notice of Intent to award a sole source contract for a Cytek Aurora 5-laser flow cytometry system. The notice is set aside for total small business participation and involves the acquisition of specialized laboratory equipment for NIAID's Rocky Mountain Laboratories facility in Hamilton, Montana. The agency intends to negotiate directly with Government Scientific Source, Inc. of Reston, Virginia, as the sole authorized reseller capable of providing the required Cytek Aurora system. This is not a request for competitive proposals but rather a formal notification of the agency's intent to proceed with a sole source procurement under Federal Acquisition Regulation authority. The contract value is estimated at $525,894.46 for the complete system including software, loader, and warranty components.
The primary objective of this acquisition is to maintain research continuity and data integrity across multiple NIAID research locations, including NIH Bethesda and an African laboratory site, all of which utilize identical Cytek Aurora systems. The equipment will enhance the capabilities of the BSL-3 laboratory's bio-safety cabinet and support critical research in influenza and viral pathogenesis, particularly studies involving human and primate subjects using tonsil, lung, airway, and brain organoids. Contractors must demonstrate active authorized reseller status for Cytek Aurora products and provide original manufacturer warranties on all equipment. The performance period is scheduled from July 15, 2025, to July 14, 2026, with the government planning to award the contract within 15 days of the notice publication date of June 26, 2025. Only bona fide Cytek Aurora brand name OEM products are acceptable, and the procurement falls under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing.
