About this opportunity

The Department of Agriculture Forest Service seeks closure of an open mine shaft on Wenatchee National Forest near Blewett, Washington, with quotations due September 4, 2026, at 4:00 PM PT. This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside.

Place of performance is Wenatchee, WA (USFS Road 7316-511, approximately 38 miles north of Cle Elum). The NAICS code is 237990, Other Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction.

The work involves installing a fabricated steel bat-friendly grate over a vertical mine shaft opening approximately 15 feet by 15 feet, secured with 5/8-inch steel rock bolts anchored at least 8 inches into competent bedrock. If bedrock cannot be accessed, contractors may propose concrete slab closures designed by a licensed Professional Structural Engineer in Washington and approved by the Forest Service before proceeding. Concrete specifications require Type II Portland cement (ASTM C150), ASTM C-33 aggregates, and 4,000 psi minimum strength at 28 days. Contractors must remove all existing cribbing, fencing, and inorganic material and perform site rehabilitation. Access is via UTV or high-clearance vehicle; staging is available at the old Blewett town site.

The contractor must submit a Project Workplan (including equipment, methods, fire prevention, schedule, and Health & Safety Plan), complete the mine shaft closure, and deliver a Work Report with photographs and field notes. Work must begin within five calendar days of Notice to Proceed and complete within 21 days. This is a firm-fixed-price acquisition. Performance and payment bonds are required within five calendar days of award. Davis-Bacon prevailing wage rates apply. Questions are due August 24, 2026.
