About this opportunity

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research to identify potential vendors capable of providing cryogenic low-noise microwave amplifiers for quantum microwave experiments. The agency is seeking responses from all responsible sources, including large and small businesses, to determine U.S. manufacturing capabilities for these specialized electronic components. Interested companies must submit electronic capability statements of four pages or less, including details about the company, manufacturing location, product specifications, and lead times. The pre-solicitation notice specifically requires vendors to demonstrate their ability to produce four amplifiers - two in the 4-8GHz frequency band and two in the 1-12GHz band - with specific technical requirements such as operation at 4 Kelvin temperatures, over 35dB gain, and power consumption under 40mW. Responses must be submitted to Contracting Officer Angela Hitt via email by May 23, 2025, with the goal of identifying potential manufacturers before finalizing procurement specifications.

The procurement falls under NAICS code 334515 for Instrument Manufacturing, with a small business size standard of 750 employees, and there is no specific set-aside designation for this opportunity. The total quantity of required amplifiers is four, with a delivery timeline of 8 weeks after order receipt and a destination delivery to NIST's Shipping and Receiving in Boulder, Colorado. Vendors must provide DC bias power supplies, SMA female input/output connectors, and meet specific noise temperature specifications for different frequency bands. The contract will include a 1-year warranty, with payment to be made 100% upon order completion under Net 30-day payment terms. While no specific award value is mentioned, the procurement involves highly specialized scientific equipment with strict technical requirements, suggesting a potentially significant contract for the right manufacturer.
