About this opportunity
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is seeking to procure a replacement Direct Electron Detector (DED) for their Thermo Fisher Talos Arctica cryogenic electron microscope. The existing Gatan K2 Summit DED has reached the end of its service cycle, and NIEHS requires a new DED that meets or exceeds the capabilities of the K2, including high-performance direct detection, radiation resistance, and support for electron diffraction data collection. Interested offerors must provide quotes for the DED, installation, software, camera housing, and related components. The award will be made to the responsible quoter whose solution meets the government's technical specifications at the lowest price.
This solicitation is for open-market commercial items, with no set-aside designation. The anticipated place of performance is Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The total contract value is unknown, but the requirement is for a single DED unit. Proposals are due by July 15, 2024, and questions must be submitted by July 8, 2024. The contract will be awarded as a purchase order.
Notice text
The Cryo-EM Core requires a Direct Electron Detector to replace the Gatan K2 Summit installed on the Thermo Fisher Talos Arctica cryogenic electron microscope. The K2 is becoming obsolete after seven years of excellent service. The new detector should meet the capabilities of the K2, remain compatible with the microscope’s hardware and software as well as with the rest of the data collection and image processing pipelines. Expansion of abilities to include micro-electron diffraction studies on protein crystals is highly desirable.
The DED must meet the criteria listed in the Statement of Need, which is attached to this synopsis/solicitation.
