About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center is seeking qualified contractors to provide overhaul services for C-5 Nose Landing Gear Door Actuator Assemblies under a Requirements Type Contract. The procurement encompasses four distinct actuator assembly models (NSNs 1680-01-160-6520UC, 1680-01-160-6519UC, 1680-01-237-0231UC, and 1680-01-237-0230UC) that are critical components of the C-5 aircraft's landing gear door actuation system, which controls the opening and closing of the nose landing gear doors during aircraft operations. The contract will be awarded using Full and Open Competition with evaluation based on Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) criteria, meaning cost will be the primary selection factor provided proposals meet all technical requirements. The formal Request for Proposals (RFP) is anticipated to be released in May 2026 and will be posted exclusively on the SAM website with no hardcopies provided; interested contractors should register on the site to receive solicitation notifications and access required technical data. The pre-solicitation comment period closes on April 24, 2026, providing potential offerors with a two-week window to submit questions or comments prior to RFP release.
This procurement carries no set-aside designations and is open to all responsible sources. The contract structure consists of a one-year basic period followed by four one-year ordering periods for a total performance period of five years, with each actuator assembly model having estimated quantities of 10 units in the basic year and 9-10 units annually during each ordering period, totaling approximately 196 units across all four models over the contract life. No incumbent contractor information or specific award value has been disclosed in this pre-solicitation notice. The overhaul effort represents a sustained requirement for specialized aircraft component maintenance, with the Air Force's commitment to a multi-year contract demonstrating the ongoing operational needs of the C-5 fleet.

These actuator assemblies are part of the C-5 NLG Door Actuation System. The NLG doors consist of two inboard doors and two outboard doors and are actuated separately from the gear. When the NLG is extended, the doors are held open by the actuators, and when the landing gear is retracted, the actuators close the doors to enclose the landing gear and streamline the aircraft.
This overhaul effort will utilize a Requirements Type Contract. Contract period of performance will be five (5) years. It will consist of a one (1) year basic period and four (4) one (1) year ordering periods. The Best Estimated Quantities for each ordering period are listed below. The USAF anticipates the acquisition will be Full and Open Competition utilizing the Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA).
