About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center is conducting market research to identify qualified sources for depot-level re-manufacturing of the C-5 Main Landing Gear (MLG) Trunnion Bearing (NSN 3120-00-766-2056UC, Part No. 4F23832-103A), a large self-aligning spherical bearing critical to landing gear retraction and extension operations. Potential contractors must demonstrate expertise, capabilities, and experience in re-manufacturing this specialized aerospace component and possess the technical qualifications outlined in the Source Pre-Qualification Requirements document. Key qualifications include the ability to manufacture the bearing and install it into the retainer, pass performance requirements per LMCO drawing 4F90004, implement an ISO 9002-compliant quality plan, perform a minimum of 75 percent of re-manufacturing work in-house, and successfully complete a one-time first article test. The government will evaluate responses based on contractor capability documentation submitted through the Contractor Capability Survey, which must address facility capabilities, staff qualifications, past project experience, repair expertise, quality assurance processes, and manufacturing practices. Interested parties must submit responses electronically by February 12, 2026, with maximum attachment sizes of 10 MB per email to specified government contacts including Program Manager Jessica Grinstead, Procurement Contracting Officer Karen Beckford, and Buyer Alyssa Tanner.
This procurement carries no small business set-aside designation, though the government will determine the final contracting strategy after analyzing small business responses and other market research data. Two sources are currently pre-qualified to perform this work: RBC Aerospace Bearings Inc. and Sargent Aerospace and Defense, LLC. The anticipated contract will run for five years from July 2027 through July 2032, with estimated annual quantities ranging from 48 to 56 remanufactured units per year to support Air Force field-level maintenance and C-5 Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) demands. Participation in this market research survey does not guarantee inclusion in future solicitations or contract awards, and the government will not reimburse participants for survey-related expenses. Security clearance levels and the extent of permissible foreign participation have not yet been determined. Responses must be submitted via DoD SAFE with a deadline of close of business March 2, 2026, for source pre-qualification requests.

NSN: 3120-00-766-2056UC
Part No. 4F23832-103A
The Air Force has a requirement for a depot-level re-manufacturing effort for the C-5 Trunnion Bearing. This item is a large, plain self-aligning, spherical bearing. It is the main pivot bearing used during the retraction and extension of the C-5 MLG. The anticipated re-manufacturing service will provide serviceable assets to meet yearly demand for Air Force field level and C-5 Programmed Depot Maintenace (PDM).
CAUTION:
This market survey is being conducted to identify potential sources that may possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet the requirements for qualification and production of the Main Landing Gear (MLG) Trunnion Bearing for use by United States Air Force (USAF) personnel. The level of security clearance and amount of foreign participation in this requirement has not been determined. Contractors/Institutions responding to this market research are placed on notice that participation in this survey may not ensure participation in future solicitations or contract awards. The government will not reimburse participants for any expenses associated with their participation in this survey.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- The document(s) below contain a description of the MLG Trunnion Bearing requirement and a Contractor Capability Survey. The Survey allows Contractors to provide their company’s capability.
- If, after reviewing these documents, you desire to participate in the market research, you should provide documentation that supports your company’s capability in meeting these requirements. Failure to provide documentation may result in the government being unable to adequately assess your capabilities.
- ATTENTION: SMALL BUSINESS RESPONDENTS who are interested in participation for this effort:
- No set aside decision has been made; however, the Government will determine the final strategy after thorough analysis of the small business responses and other market research available, considering the demonstrated interest and capability. Please ensure that you provide a thorough response to each question. If your company does not currently possess the full capability required to fulfill the entire requirement, what teaming/partnership/joint venture/subcontracting arrangement do you have in place to fulfill the government needs? Providing evidence of this arrangement, e.g. emails, letter, etc. that demonstrates a united response to this SSS is highly encouraged, but not required. The evidence should state the type of arrangement and the role each member will fulfill. If you are only interested in being a subcontractor to the future awardee, state the portion of the work that your organization has capability of fulfilling.
- Identify any areas of work that your organization believes should be broken out exclusively for Small Business.
- Both large and small businesses are encouraged to participate in this Market Research. Joint ventures or teaming arrangements are encouraged.
- Questions relative to this market survey should be addressed to the Program Manager Jessica Grinstead (Jessica.Grinstead@us.af.mil) with CC to the PCO Karen Beckford (Karen.Beckford@us.af.mil) and Buyer, Alyssa Tanner (Alyssa.Tanner.1@us.af.mil)
