About this opportunity
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), a civilian agency under the Department of the Treasury, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking innovative overt security features for future U.S. currency production. This Special Notice, posted on November 14, 2025, is classified under Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences and represents the government's effort to identify novel technologies that could enhance counterfeit deterrence. The RFI does not constitute a guaranteed procurement opportunity but rather serves as an informational planning tool to evaluate available solutions in the marketplace. Interested parties are invited to submit their preliminary samples and technical descriptions to support the BEP's research and development objectives.
The primary objective of this RFI is to obtain, test, and evaluate novel visual authentication technologies that provide effective protection against counterfeiting through traditional printing, digital reproduction, and commercial material simulation methods. Interested respondents must submit preliminary samples and brief technical descriptions to Chris Dollberg at BEP by 2:00 PM Eastern Time on November 15, 2026, with all submission costs borne solely by the respondent. Technologies must be unique, not currently in commercial use or public domain, and capable of being readily authenticated by the general public under typical lighting conditions. While the RFI does not establish specific eligibility restrictions, proposed technologies should demonstrate the potential to be incorporated into banknotes as distinctive counterfeit deterrents. The BEP reserves the right to submit offered technologies to outside technical experts for evaluation, subject to the submitting party's approval, and emphasizes that participation in this RFI does not guarantee any future contract award or procurement action.
