About this opportunity

The United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service is seeking to procure a benchtop DNA sequencer through solicitation number 12332SA25Q0872. The sequencer must be capable of producing reads greater than 20kb from high molecular weight DNA, be compatible with genome assembly and diversity analysis pipelines, and generate reads covering large complex grass genomes at 5-10x coverage. The system must maintain a compact footprint not exceeding 500mm x 500mm and include cloud-based support with training capabilities. The procurement will be evaluated using Lowest Priced Technically Acceptable (LPTA) criteria, with technical capability assessed on the ability to meet or exceed salient characteristics in the specifications, and preference given to domestic end-product items. Quotes are due September 26, 2025, just three days after the solicitation was posted on September 23, 2025.

This opportunity operates under no set-aside designation and is open to all qualified contractors meeting the technical requirements. While no specific award value or budget range is provided in the solicitation materials, the government has clarified through Q&A sessions that reagents would be welcomed if they meet all requirement specifications, and that a one-year support package is sufficient with cloud-based training acceptable in lieu of onsite instruction. The sequencer will be delivered FOB destination to the PWA Plant Germplasm facility located at 2000 Wilson Road, 293 Clark Hall, Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. The procurement falls under PSC 6640 for Laboratory Equipment and Supplies and NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, indicating the specialized nature of this scientific equipment acquisition.
