The project involves constructing a new paved parking lot with approximately 75 spaces, installing a kiosk for Arizona Trail information, building a public restroom, and rehabilitating Sabino Canyon Park Road. Key contract requirements include roadway excavation, soil nail retaining wall construction, asphalt pavement installation, culvert placement, and associated infrastructure improvements. While specific evaluation criteria were not explicitly detailed in the pre-solicitation notice, the project appears to prioritize comprehensive infrastructure development and trail accessibility. The solicitation is currently posted with a response deadline of May 30, 2025, and interested contractors should note the anticipated advertisement date of June 2025.
The contract is designated as a total small business set-aside with an estimated cost range between $5 million and $10 million. Principal work items include 7,000 cubic yards of roadway excavation, 8,200 square feet of soil nail retaining wall, 1,800 tons of roadway aggregate, and installation of two vault toilets. The project is categorized under NAICS code 237310 for Highway, Street, and Bridge Construction and involves approximately 0.5 miles of road improvement. The location is particularly notable as a popular summer destination near Tucson, with the road providing access to Summerhaven and a nearby ski area.
