About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 6, on behalf of Durham VA Medical Center, announced its intent to sole source a contract with Illumina Inc. for preventative maintenance and support services for a NextSeq 2000 Next Generation Sequencer, with a response deadline of July 22, 2026. The procurement is restricted to a single source under FAR 6.103-1(b) authority.
The contract supports VA SeqCURE, an enterprise-wide sequencing program initiated to conduct SARS-CoV-2 research and combat COVID-19 and emerging infectious diseases. The NextSeq 2000 is core to this program; Durham VA has sequenced more than 6,000 specimens to date to understand variants affecting veterans. The instrument requires annual preventative maintenance and full coverage support to maintain accuracy, precision, and reproducibility. Durham VA's biomedical team lacks internal capability to perform this maintenance, necessitating sole-source procurement from the equipment manufacturer.
Illumina Inc., located at 5200 Illumina Way, San Diego, California 92122 (NAICS 811210, Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance), is the sole intended recipient. The contract period runs from September 5, 2026, through September 4, 2027, with four option years available.
