About this file

This is a special notice announcing the Department of Veterans Affairs' intent to sole source a contract with Illumina Inc. for preventative maintenance and support services for a NextSeq 2000 Next Generation Sequencer at Durham VA Medical Center. The contract will be awarded under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.103-1(b) authority, which permits restricting competition, with procedures outlined in FAR 12.102(a). The instrument is core to the VA SeqCURE program, an enterprise-wide effort initiated to conduct SARS-CoV-2 sequencing and research to combat COVID-19 and other emerging infectious diseases; to date, more than 6,000 specimens have been sequenced at Durham VA to understand variants impacting veterans.

The contract period of performance runs from September 5, 2026, through September 4, 2027, with four option years available. The procurement requires annual preventative maintenance and full coverage support services to ensure the sequencer maintains high accuracy, precision, and reproducibility. The contractor, Illumina Inc., located at 5200 Illumina Way, San Diego, California 92122, operates under NAICS code 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance). The notice indicates that Durham VA's biomedical team lacks internal capability to perform the required preventative maintenance, necessitating the sole source award to the equipment manufacturer. No specific pricing terms, response dates, or award dates are provided in this special notice document.
