About this opportunity
The United States Forest Service is conducting market research through this Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential suppliers of aerial seeding payloads for unmanned aircraft systems used in reforestation efforts across National Forests and Grasslands. The agency specifically requires seeding devices that integrate with three approved unmanned aircraft models: Freefly Systems Alta X, Freefly Systems Astro, and Vision Aerial Switchblade. Key technical requirements include remote start/stop capabilities, preset or controllable seeding patterns, secure mounting systems, compatible power integration, and comprehensive vendor support including operator manuals and training programs. All potential offerors must obtain "No Technical Objection" certification from the respective aircraft manufacturers and demonstrate compatibility with USFS mission requirements. Responses must be submitted in PDF format with Unique Entity Identifier information to steven.b.peterson@usda.gov by 1200 hours Mountain Time on September 3, 2025.
This procurement opportunity does not utilize any set-aside designation and is open to all qualified contractors. The RFI does not identify any current incumbents or existing contractors providing these specialized aerial seeding services to the Forest Service. No specific budget ranges or contract values are disclosed in the pre-solicitation documentation, as this represents an early market research phase rather than a formal solicitation. The technical specifications emphasize the need for precise, controlled seeding capabilities across various vegetation types, suggesting the requirement for sophisticated payload systems capable of operating in diverse forest environments. The relatively short response window of approximately two weeks indicates the agency's intention to move quickly from market research to potential solicitation phases.
