About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health Office of Logistics and Acquisition Operations intends to solicit a single Agilent-BioTek multimode plate reader as a firm fixed-price purchase order, with responses due by September 6, 2026. No set-aside applies.
The instrument will support the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at 10 Center Drive, Building 10, CRC/5W-5888, Bethesda, Maryland 20892, replacing an outdated unit no longer under service contract. The system must support multiple detection modes: fluorescence intensity, fluorescence polarization, time-resolved fluorescence, luminescence, and ultraviolet-visible absorbance. Technical specifications include both monochromator-based and filter-based optical systems with continuously variable bandwidth, independent top and bottom optical reading positions, and luminescence sensitivity of 5 attomoles of adenosine triphosphate or better in 384-well low-volume plates. Read speed cannot exceed six seconds for a full 96-well plate or eleven seconds for a full 384-well plate. Multi-zone temperature control must reach 70 degrees Celsius with 0.2 degrees Celsius accuracy at 37 degrees Celsius. The unit must be compatible with Gen5 data analysis software and existing automated liquid injection systems, support 96-well, 384-well, and 1,536-well plate formats, and provide well-by-well absorbance path length correction. Delivery is required within 30 days after order receipt, with mandatory installation training and standard manufacturer warranty with ongoing service support and replacement parts availability. Payment will be made in one lump sum 30 days after receipt of order.
Notice text
The purpose of this requirement is to acquire a microplate reader for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases to support biochemical and biophysical analyses. The instrument measures absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence from samples in a multi-well plate format, enabling detection and quantification of biological molecules and cellular processes. The system supports high-throughput, automated workflows and includes temperature control, liquid handling capability, and adjustable optical settings for live-cell assays. The requested unit will replace an existing instrument that has become outdated and unreliable. The replacement system is compatible with existing laboratory software, allowing continuity of current experimental protocols and data analysis methods. Justification: Microplate-based measurements are critical to research conducted by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, including studies of metabolism, cellular function, and disease mechanisms such as obesity and diabetes. The current instrument lacks sufficient sensitivity for luminescence-based assays and does not meet the speed requirements for time-sensitive measurements, resulting in reduced data quality and efficiency. The replacement unit provides improved sensitivity and faster read speeds, directly addressing these limitations. The existing instrument is no longer supported under a service contract, increasing the risk of failure and potential disruption to ongoing federally funded research. Failure to acquire this instrument may result in suspension of critical experiments, delays in research progress, and increased costs associated with rework and equipment downtime.
