About this opportunity

The U.S. Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Sustainment Center is conducting a pre-solicitation market research effort (A26-006) to identify potential sources capable of supplying handheld scanners and associated software for use by Air Force personnel. The procurement seeks two primary scanner systems: a Handheld Self-Positioning Laser Scanner System and an Optical CMM Scanner Unit, each with comprehensive components including scanner units, carrying cases, cables, power supplies, calibration equipment, and training materials with one-year warranty coverage. Interested vendors must demonstrate expertise, capabilities, and experience in scanner qualification and production through a detailed Contractor Capability Survey consisting of 30 technical questions addressing scanner specifications, software functionality, workflow performance, training and support services, and pricing models. The market research document does not specify formal evaluation criteria, as this is a pre-solicitation survey designed to assess market capability rather than conduct competitive evaluation; however, responses must address technical specifications, environmental tolerances, measurement accuracy, scan speed, working range, and connectivity options. Responses to the market research survey are due by close of business on January 20, 2026, and should be submitted via email to Mark Todd at mark.todd.7@us.af.mil; contractors should note that participation in this survey does not guarantee inclusion in future solicitations or contract awards.

This procurement carries no small business set-aside designation, though both large and small businesses are encouraged to participate, and joint ventures and teaming arrangements are explicitly welcomed. No incumbent contractors or current contract holders are identified in the pre-solicitation documentation. The specific contract award value and quantity of scanners required have not been disclosed in this pre-solicitation phase, as the market research is intended to inform the government's understanding of available sources and capabilities before formal solicitation. The NAICS code 334513 (Instruments and Related Products Manufacturing for Measuring, Displaying, and Controlling Industrial Process Variables) has been assigned to this opportunity. The government will not reimburse respondents for any expenses associated with participation in this market survey, and the level of required security clearance and allowable foreign participation have not yet been determined.
