About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Erie Medical Center is seeking to procure 7 "VELA 'Move+' Ophthalmology Chairs" through a Request for Quotation (RFQ). The chairs must have a lockable base, powered handheld remote to adjust seat height, weight capacity of at least 350 lbs, adjustable backrest/armrests/footrest, and an adjustable push bar to allow safe repositioning of patients during eye exams. The chairs are required to be new, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) items, with no used, refurbished, or counterfeit products allowed. Quotes are due by June 13, 2024, and delivery is required within 30 days of award.

This procurement is set aside for total small business under NAICS code 339112 (Surgical and Medical Instrument Manufacturing). Payment will be made upon acceptance of the items by the VA Erie Medical Center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), which is the place of performance for this contract.

Notice text

Please see attached 1449 RFQ

Background: The Erie VA Medical Center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) currently use basic wheeled office chairs (furniture, not medical equipment) for eye exams.

The Erie VA Medical Center does not have a suitable alternative solution for repositioning patients at the proper height and placement with various eye exam equipment. Our Veterans often need help getting into and out of the chair multiple times during an exam because there is no safe way to change the height and placement of the patient without them getting out of the chair. In addition, since the wheels on the chair do not lock, each time in and out creates a fall risk.

The Erie VAMC requests an Eye Exam chair (medical equipment) designed to allow the patient to be transported between rooms and repositioned for different devices quickly and safely for staff and patients. It needs to have a repositionable backrest, armrests, footrest, a lockable, stable base, and a push bar to allow the staff to move the patient from one place to another so that the patient only must sit down and get up once during the exam. This chair should have a powered handheld remote to adjust the height of the chair to put the patient in the optimal position for an accurate eye exam result. In addition, it should provide the staff with an ergonomic working position that doesn't require unnecessary bending forward or manually assisting patients in and out of the chair multiple times.
