About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Integrated Service Network 20 is seeking architect-engineering (A-E) services for the emergency upgrade of the fire sprinkler system at Building 61 of the American Lake VA Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. The key objectives are to investigate the cause of a pipe burst, engineer an effective and communicative fire detection and suppression system, mitigate weather-induced damage, and ensure digital communication and interoperability. The A-E services contract will be procured using the Brooks Act selection process, with firms required to submit SF 330 qualification statements by May 30, 2024. The government plans to award the A-E contract in mid to late June 2024, with a 273-calendar day period of performance for the design.
This contract opportunity is a 100% set-aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs). The estimated construction value is between $2-5 million, and the VA will retain a Registered Fire Protection Engineer to review the A-E's drawings for compliance with NFPA and VA Fire Safety Criteria. An amendment has been issued to provide clarification on the Statement of Work, including restoration of damaged interior finishes and physical security requirements.
