About this opportunity

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is seeking to procure 10X Genomics Xenium Prime 5K reagents for advanced immunological research. Specifically, the solicitation requests one Xenium Prime 5K Add-on Custom up to 50 Gene Panel and five Xenium Prime 5K Mouse Pan Tissue and Pathways Assay Kits. The procurement is being conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures using a Request for Quotes (RFQ) with the solicitation number RFQ-NIAID-25-2261543. The Schwartzberg Lab will use these reagents to investigate tissue-resident lymphocytes and their role in autoimmune disease development, focusing on research involving patients with a rare disease involving a partial truncation of the IL-6 receptor. Evaluation criteria will be based on technical capability to meet requirements and pricing, with the government intending to award a firm fixed price purchase order. The submission deadline is May 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM EST, and all quotes must be submitted through the NIAID electronic SIMPLIFIED ACQUISITION SUBMISSION SYSTEM (eSASS).

The solicitation is not set aside for small businesses and is open to all responsible sources under NAICS code 325414 for Biological Product Manufacturing. The place of performance is located at NIH, 4 Memorial Drive, Building 40, in Bethesda, Maryland. Delivery is requested as soon as possible after award acceptance, with FOB terms set at destination. Vendors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) database and complete all required representations and certifications. The procurement involves several standard Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) provisions, including FAR 52.212-1, 52.212-3, and 52.212-4, which outline instructions, representations, and commercial item contract terms. Potential contractors must comply with various regulatory requirements, including provisions related to equal employment opportunity, confidentiality agreements, and prohibitions on contracting with certain entities. The total quantity of reagents is relatively small, with one custom gene panel and five assay kits, suggesting this is a targeted, specialized research procurement.

Project Description:

The NIH, NIAID, LISB, has a current requirement for 10X Genomics reagents.  The LISB investigates basic aspects of innate and adaptive immune function and how the body responses to viral infections. Using new technologies, LISB aims to understand the complex dynamics of the virus-host interactions to be able to perturb the system and produce a positive outcome. The LISB is divided up into multiple labs with varying specialties. The Schwartzberg Lab applies Xenium Prime 5K kit technologies to improve our understanding of how tissue resident lymphocyte contribute to the prevention or the establishment of autoimmune manifestations in exocrine, endocrine and mucosal tissues in mouse models of primary immunodeficiencies. This type of knowledge is expected to improve our understanding of the role of tissue-resident lymphocytes in the development of autoimmunity to be able to better treat autoimmune diseases.  These items are for an ongoing projects to sequence and analyze samples from patients with a rare disease involving a partial truncation of the IL-6 receptor.
