About this opportunity

The Department of Energy has issued a pre-solicitation notice for the furnishing and installation of a new 10-ton packaged heat pump unit to serve a new magnet refurbishment area in Building 36 at Jefferson Lab. The project, designated as the B36 Magnet Refurbishment Bay HVAC Installation, requires contractors to provide both the heat pump equipment and installation services, along with the installation of a vinyl/PVC curtain wall to create a barrier between the existing unconditioned space and the newly conditioned area. This opportunity falls under NAICS code 23822 for Plumbing, Heating, and Air-Conditioning Contractors and PSC category K045 for Modification of Equipment-Plumbing, Heating, and Waste Disposal Equipment. Interested parties must register and can access the complete solicitation package through the Jefferson Lab Solicitation Board. The notice was posted on September 17, 2025, with a due date of September 19, 2025, providing contractors with a very brief response window.

This procurement is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, restricting participation to qualified small business entities. The notice does not identify any incumbent contractors or provide specific budget ranges or award values for the project. The key numerical specification centers on the 10-ton capacity requirement for the heat pump unit that will condition the magnet refurbishment bay area. No timeline for project completion or service duration is specified in the pre-solicitation notice. The rapid turnaround between the posting date and due date suggests this may be a time-sensitive project requirement for the Department of Energy facility.
