Addendum No. 2 to Bland Hall Renovation Contract Documents
This is an addendum to the construction contract documents for the Renovation of Bland Hall at Wytheville Community College (Project Code 260-B4260-040, L24WC650), issued by SFCS Inc. on behalf of the Virginia Community College System. The addendum modifies the original contract documents dated July 16, 2025, and extends the bid submission deadline from May 27, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. to Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., with the public bid opening rescheduled from May 28, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. to Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The addendum addresses 19 pre-bid requests for information submitted between May 6 and May 15, 2026, providing clarifications on specification discrepancies, preferred vendor selections, material substitutions, shelving configurations, door ratings, flooring products, and fire alarm shutdown responsibilities. Key clarifications include confirmation that existing doors maintain their existing fire ratings; updates to mobile storage shelving specifications and drawings; approval for material substitutions such as switching from discontinued Mohawk "Hit the Mark" LVP to Mannington Products; and allowance for contractors to meet AWI standards through written certification of materials and methods rather than requiring formal AWI certification when alternate materials are proposed.
The addendum modifies Section 105626 (Mobile Storage Shelving) and updates multiple drawing sheets including AD1.0 (Ground Floor Demolition Plans), A1.1 (Ground Floor Plans), A2.1 (Enlarged Plans and Details), A4.1 (Door Schedule and Details), A7.1 (Interior Elevations), I0.0 (Finish Legend), and I1.1 (Finish Floor Plan). Preferred vendors identified include Johnson Controls for fire alarm systems, Epitome for data infrastructure, Verkada with Tight Technologies for access control, and RTW Media for sound masking systems, though the owner reserves the right to change these selections. CAD drawings will be made available to the contractor after bid award subject to a signed CAD release agreement. The owner has initiated an updated lead and asbestos survey, with results to be incorporated into project specifications via a separate addendum if abatement is required. All bidders must acknowledge receipt of Addendum No. 2 on their bid forms to avoid disqualification, and the document includes complete revised specifications for mobile storage shelving systems with detailed performance, materials, and installation requirements.

This is subject to change.
4. RFI Question:
See notes below regarding the sizes not matching what is in the spec. Also, is there a CAD (.dwg) file available for this space that we can use to layout the system? Specification Section 105626 page 4: 2 places on this page indicate that the shelving is 36”W x 12”D, however the drawings seem to reflect
ADDENDUM NO. 2 2
other sizes (there’s a 34”D and 14”D). There is no indication about how many shelves / openings there are per unit. Can we get some clarification on the shelving set up?
SFCS Response: Please refer to Addendum No. 1 for clarification on specification and drawings for mobile storage shelving including an updated specification. Spec Article 2.5 outlines shelving units width and number of shelves.
Spec Article 2.5.B.2 has been updated to indicate single-faced and double-faced sided units and to refer to drawings.
Enlarged Plan 2/A2.1 has been revised to provide additional notes to clarify single/double sided shelving locations.
CAD Drawings can be made available to contractor after bid award and with a signed CAD release agreement.
5. RFI Question:
Sheet A4.1: The door schedule calls for a few doors to have a 20-minute fire rating, but some of the existing doors that are not marked as 20-minute on the schedule are currently rated for 90-minutes or higher. Please clarify if the doors no longer need to be rated if not marked on the door schedule as such.
SFCS Response:
Existing doors to remain shall maintain their existing rating. Door schedule updated to note existing ratings to remain.
6. RFI Question:
Sheet I0.0: Please confirm the intended specification for the Formica Hardstop paneling noted as
“custom graphic”. Formica requires a minimum order quantity of 25 sheets for all “custom graphics” material. Based on the drawings, this will be substantially less. Please confirm that a custom graphic finish is the intended design requirement so that the associated material coverage and cost impact can be accurately included.
Specifications Section 064116, page 160, paragraph 2.1: Is AWI certification required on this project?
SFCS Response:
The PL-2 Formica Hardstop has been updated to a Wilson laminate with a graphic film. Refer to attached Sheet I0.0.
For the AWI certification, per Section 27 of the DGS-30-054, alternate equal materials, products or model numbers may be proposed by the Contractor through the A/E for approval by the Owner through the process set forth in Section 26. Alternately, if the Contractor can certify in writing the following requirements at a minimum will be met, this will be acceptable:
